The results for the Academic Senate elections are, for Liberal Arts and Sciences: Steven Smith, Zoe Rae Williamson, Toni Wilson, Casey Saunders, Danielle Bouchard, Aaron Kass, Megan Singer, and Stephanie Bartolome.

For School of the Arts, it's: Ash Zeitler, William Manton, Nicole Sonnefeldt, James Hickey, Megan Singer & Stephanie Krasner.

What has been done since March 5, 2013 to address the violations of the "Clery Act" by the UPD at Purchase College and are there any formal written letters that have been addressed and delivered to the President of the University, Thomas J. Schwarz, in regard to the infractions and lack of proper maintenance of the official Campus Police records ? What about a formal written correspondence being made to Lt. W Butler or newly installed Chief , Michael Bailey? This may prove beneficial to future students and aid them in holding the UPD accountable to a higher standard of justice, to which all students are entitled .

You know, there is SO MUCH more you could have written about in this article than the 100 people that we, regrettably, had to turn down. There's a reason why so many people showed up, and that's because Rocky Horror is not only a show, but an experience. There's audience participation, there's a live show in front of a movie screen, there's an all-around sense of openness and not giving a f***. It's gives people a chance to let go for a few hours and just have fun.

THAT'S what this article should have been about. The number of people who were able to attend the event is so insignificant compared to everything else that could have been written about.

(Also, the girl who played Riff Raff, that you then quoted in this article, is named Maddie Moran, NOT "Madie Fenton." lol :P )

The claim that this change is creating a more affordable education for the students is a complete joke. Do you really think the students who become RAs, CAs, and SLAs do it simply because they love it? Of course they have to enjoy the position, but most of the staff I met while I was an RA at Purchase had to keep those positions in order to afford college at all (and many professional Res Life staffers never let them forget it, threatening their jobs regularly.) So now you're taking away 20+ positions that offer one of the largest financial assistance programs offered by the college - free housing - in favor of creating...scholarships? Will you provide $10,000+ scholarships to 20 or more people with this revenue? If not, then it's complete bollocks. The logic is not sound, and I don't believe the revenue gained from these cuts will be redirected to a scholarship fund. I'd like to see proof of that. In addition, to harness the current staff with larger resident numbers is the worst possible decision the department could make. I had an entire floor of about 50 students to myself for one year, and when you have that many people to be responsible for, plus things like classes, jobs, and senior project, little things and big things have a tendency to slip through the cracks. It's putting too much stress on the RAs with not enough compensation, and it's severely underserving the residents who pay a LOT of money to stay in the res halls. It's baffling that this seems like a good solution to anyone.

The Res Life program had been one of the most enjoyable and successful programs at Purchase as a whole for many years, and all that changed around Fall of 09/Spring 10. It seems to have continued going down hill from there. I heard that in 2011 they got rid of RA meal plans as well? What a joke. I'm sorry for the current paraprofessional staff who didn't get to experience this department in it's glory, when it was something you really loved being a part of, rather than just something you had to do to be able to afford college.

That's horrid. For Res Life, being an RA means allowing college to be affordable. Their board is waived, what could be better than that? The fact that Res Life is capable of balancing their busy schedules around classes, extra curriculars and their jobs? I think that's incredible and this so called "solution" is absurd. This is just another sign of a bad economy.

I want to point out that a ratio of 35 residents per RA is the worst possible thing ever. I know because I had a large hall of residents during the toughest year of Undergrad. Wondering if the RAs were allowed to let voices be heard on this absurd development.

While the College says these kinds of cuts are required to keep school affordable in the face of stalling support from the State - itself an awful thing - these cuts also make college less affordable for the students who rely on these positions to help pay for their education. Worse yet, it places a significantly higher work burden onto these students, which undercuts their ability to both succeed academically as well as to work a second job to help cover the costs of their education.

This "mentorship" program also sounds like they're replacing staff with unpaid interns, while also adding a constant training component to the RA/CA job which it did not previously have (not to mention cutting of the single room benefit, which is a loss of in-kind income of over $400 per semester).

OK, so a little bit of math...

For each new roommate the RA or CA has to take on, the college gains at least 3k per semester (free beds!). A reduction of staff by 13 means 13 more rooms they can rent, which probably means 26 beds (remember that their replacements are now living with RA or CA under this mentorship arrangement, so they're already taken care of). So, 13 rooms (26 beds) + 25 alternates = about 200k in new revenue for the college, per semester.

But that revenue is gained 100% on the backs of student labor.

And it doesn't square with past reslife programs like renting hotel rooms and giving them to students at regular college room rates, which is a giant money drain but provides an intangible benefit of security to the students.
